A Default Parent Rant II

Because we do it all...

We do it all tired,

We do it all unwell,

We do it all drained,

We do it all fed up.

Because if we don’t do it then who the fuck will?

We are the default parent - mainly mums..

Who does it all and still feel like we have never done enough.

We judge ourselves,

And we silently judge our parenting,

Always wondering if we got it right,

Always thinking we could have done things better,

Always forgetting that even when we don’t want to..

Even when we feel like we can’t..

Even when we are too tired..

Unwell..

In pain..

We do it anyway…

Without question,

Without hesitation,

Because if we don’t do it then who the fuck will?

When we chose to have children we did not know..

We did not understand..

It wasn’t a well known secret..

That it mean’t that all of the main parenting responsibilities..

Would fall on us.

We did not know..

Because no one informed us..

That we would be expected to be..

the mum,

the cook,

the cleaner,

the PA,

the taxi driver,

and the maid…

And if i hear the words “what’s for tea?” one more time i think i might actually go insane.

But if we don’t do all the above then who the fuck will?

Because god forbid they use their own intellect..

Or the brain that god gave them..

To realise that we are tired..

And we could do with the rest..

No that is too much to ask and so..

They continue to do what they do best..

Moan that the kids are..

Spoiled,

Entitled,

Lazy,

Because ironically they do not help me enough.

Not realising or understanding..

That they wouldn’t even be fed today if it wasn’t for us.

And so we continue to get up..

Everyday, the same as before..

We do it all..

Tired,

Unwell,

Drained,

Or fed up.

Because if we don’t do it all then who the fuck will?
